Editorial & Corrections Policy

thespillcanvas.com is an independent music archive. It is not the official website of The Spill Canvas and does not speak for the band, its members, management, labels or partners. Our editorial role is to restore useful historical material, explain its time and source, and connect readers to official current destinations.

Editorial principles

• Music first. Published material must relate to artists, recordings, performance, songwriting or documented music culture.
• Dates in context. Historical announcements are labeled so that expired tours, contests, preorders and store offers do not appear current.
• Sources over guesses. Current facts are checked against artist-controlled pages, official release pages, verified profiles or dated primary material.
• Clear independence. We do not imitate an official band voice or attribute editorial restoration work to the artist.
• No topic-drift publishing. Casino, gambling, unrelated commercial guest posts and later domain-takeover content are excluded even when they are long or unique.
• No full lyrics. We may discuss a song or use a short attributed quotation when necessary, but we do not publish complete copyrighted lyrics.

Authorship and bylines

Restored articles can contain words that originally appeared on another archived music site. Their archive source and capture context are recorded in the underlying import data. The WordPress byline identifies the editorial team responsible for restoration and publication on this domain; it does not claim original authorship where the original page did not provide it.

New guides, methodology notes and corrections are written by The Spill Canvas Editorial Team. A team byline avoids the misleading default “admin” label and keeps the archive distinct from the band’s own official communication.

Fact checking and release information

Release names and dates can differ between editions, territories and streaming services. We use exact dates only when a source supports them. A selective release timeline is described as selective rather than complete. We do not invent sales numbers, chart positions, current members, tour dates, label relationships or future plans.

For current band information, readers are directed to the official website. For a release represented on the artist’s own Bandcamp, we link the official release page. External services remain responsible for their own catalog data and availability.

Historical editing rules

We may correct obvious encoding problems, remove duplicate navigation, add headings, unwrap dead links and format a recovered article for readability. We may also add a short archive notice or editor’s note. We do not silently change the substance of a quoted historical statement.

When an old call to action no longer works, the preferred treatment is to describe it as historical and remove the broken link. When the wording itself is necessary to understand the era, it can remain inside a clearly marked archive section. Capture dates and original publication dates are never treated as interchangeable without evidence.

Images, trademarks and copyright

Artist names, record titles and trademarks are used for identification, commentary and historical reference. Images are published only when they were recovered with the relevant archived article, provided through an official source for editorial use, or created as a generic target-local editorial illustration. Image files are hosted locally after validation; we do not rely on dead donor hotlinks.

This site does not offer unauthorised music downloads. It does not reproduce complete song lyrics. If you represent a rights holder and believe a passage or image needs review, use the contact route below and identify the exact URL and material.

Corrections process

1. Send the exact page URL and the statement or media item in question.
2. Provide a primary or otherwise reliable source supporting the change.
3. The editorial team checks the live page, archive record and supplied evidence.
4. If a factual correction is warranted, the page is updated and its review date changes.
5. If evidence remains uncertain, the page receives a qualification rather than an invented conclusion.

Formatting, accessibility and broken-link repairs do not alter an original publication date. Substantive editorial changes update the visible review date and structured-data modification date where present.

Contact categories

The contact page accepts factual corrections, source contributions, rights questions and accessibility reports. It is not a booking, management, fan-club or customer-support channel for The Spill Canvas. Official band enquiries belong on the artist’s official website.
